Letters from Leadership

Dear Parents,

I am looking forward to the first day of school tomorrow! Our Reopening Plan was designed thoughtfully and guided by science. Foundational to our work, was the abundant information and input we received from public health experts. Below are excerpts from an email I received from Dr. Greg Siwek, Director of Infectious Disease, at Regions Hospital, after reviewing Minnehaha’s plan.

The plan looks great.  It is well thought out and thorough…

I think this plan is an effective one for limiting spread within the school…

We have seen hundreds of patients with COVID in our hospital over the last few months, we are getting to know what this virus can and can’t do. Focusing on distancing and masks will be the key in addition to rapidly identifying cases…

The classroom plan is excellent…

Transmission through surface contamination plays less of a role than the air we breathe. Continue the disinfection, but the virus does not spread easily this way. Hand washing and not touching ones face should be emphasized as they are…

I am not that familiar with the Bi Polar technology, but in reading about it, It seems like a promising system against other viruses. It will be important to make sure the regular ventilation system is working well with the appropriate number of air exchanges. I think some of the cases of widespread transmission are related to poor ventilation and air exchanges.

Congratulations on a great plan.  Your group did a really really nice job.

I want to emphasize once again that the partnership between home and school is critical at this juncture. The School commits to fulfilling its role to ensure the health and safety of students, faculty, and staff. We hope you will be very attentive in monitoring activities at home to minimize transmission of the virus outside of school.

We are bolstered by our deep faith and trust in God. We know that he is with us, cares for us, and will sustain us.

Blessings,

Donna Harris, Ed.D.
President, Minnehaha Academy
