Track & Field

Track and field at Minnehaha Academy

Overview

Minnehaha Track & Field Team Culture

Our track team seeks to glorify God by using the talents He has given us in the pursuit of athletic excellence.  Just as the body of Christ is made up of many parts, so too is our team and we are strong because of our diversity.  We practice positive attitudes, hard work, and clear communication.

Our student athletes are active leaders in the school community. They are in choir, in the Minnehaha Leadership Institute, participate in theater. They are visible in the student body for all of the right reasons. They encourage each other and draw others in a way that creates contagious positivity.

Growing as a Track & Field Athlete

We recognize that building specific running skills and stamina is important for success in meets. Our coaches work to develop athlete talents.

However, we believe that the most important skills our Redhawks build are the skills of learning to love what they do and fully investing themselves in what they pursue. These are lifelong skills that can be applied to a career, relationships, and faith.

Coaching Emphasis

Lift the cow. Every day. What does this team mantra mean? It is based on the ancient story that emphasizes the idea that many seemingly ordinary people have accomplished extraordinary things through a combination of hard work and consistency. But it's more to it than just that. We find success when we share a love of the sport and our teammates.

Competition Level

Sixth through eighth grade students athletes are encouraged to try a multitude of events and experience the variety of options available in track and field. At this level, athletes develop a sense of work ethic and hone competitive instincts.

Our ninth through twelfth grade student athletes encourage each other, work hard in the on- and off-season, and compete at the highest levels. Our coaches meet each athlete where they are at and grow their skills from there. We believe that everyone has a unique collection of talents and abilities. Track and Field is a team sport - we need each person with their giftings to successfully compete in the 18 different events in Track & Field.

Track & Field & Faith Integration

God is the center of everything we do. We pray at the beginning of every practice, at parent meetings, and before meets. We have conversations with each other about our faith and we highlight a focus verse each year that helps guide our team throughout the year. As coaches, we ask ourselves - how would Jesus coach?
