Seven Questions: Elsa

Seven Questions: Elsa
Amy Barnard

Elsa is an eighth grader at Minnehaha Academy and is entering her eleventh year at the school. We asked her seven questions about herself and her time at the school.

  1. What is one moment at Minnehaha Academy you wish you could experience again?
Meeting all my friends again. You don’t know at the moment that they will be your best friends.

A group of girls and their counselors pose for the camera

Elsa with friends at the Middle School Retreat.

A large group of students in a wood ceilinged chapel worshipping

Elsa (third row, first student) worshipping during the Middle School Retreat at Covenant Pines camp.

  2. If you could only attend one class at school for a whole semester, which would you pick?
French because I really enjoy learning languages. I like getting to know the language because it's not just words you're learning, it's also the culture of the people who live there.

  3. Who is someone at school who inspires you?
My sister. She taught me the power of hard work and persistence. She manages to get her work done, to excel, and to do sports; that has always inspired me.

  4. What’s your earliest memory from your time at MA?
I remember getting to touch a real octopus in preschool and being able to learn about it.

a group of preschoolers explore an octopus

Elsa and classmates exploring sea creatures during preschool.

  5. What is one of your favorite books?
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

  6. How do you get yourself energized for your day?
I listen to music...it energizes me and helps me wake up.

  7. What’s the best piece of advice you've received—and who gave it to you?
Advice from Eleanor Roosevelt that I came across during a school project: “You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say... 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do.”

  8. Bonus Question: If you had the power to make one meaningful change in the world, what would it be?
It would be to have world peace. It's not just buildings getting destroyed, it's people's lives and everything they know that can get destroyed. It's terrible to hear all of the things that happen because of war.
