🎶 It's Not Magic, It's Music! ✨

Our third graders experienced the beauty of improvisation using the melodic pentatonic scale in Ms. Patzloff's class. Not only were they learning the power of the pentatonic scale, but they were hard at work practicing rhythm and free-form improvisation.

Minnehaha Academy’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble had the incredible honor of opening for the renowned Minnesota Symphonic Wind Ensemble. This event was made even more special by the unique connection between Minnehaha and the Minnesota Symphonic Wind Ensemble (MSW). Our very own band director plays in the MSW group, and every few years, we have the privilege of hosting them on our campus.The Star Tribune even featured the concert as one of the top nine free events in the Twin Cities that weekend!

We caught up with students Ezra and Gabriela who shared their perspectives on the experience.

This winter's student-produced musical pulled in sixteen honors from Hennepin Theatre Trust's Spotlight Education program. The play, "Junie B. Jones, the Musical," demanded a certain amount of creativity and flexibility in order to pull it off while following social distancing safety guidelines.

Music teacher Ms. Benson has developed creative lessons for students using simple materials students have in their home.

Nate Stromberg '96 comes full circle as a student, and now a teacher of Art at the Upper School campus.  He created the art program and also designed many of the art pieces around campus.
