Minnehaha Academy was founded on the belief that an excellent education should be available to all families. It is an investment in your child’s education and our robust tuition assistance program is available to help make it a reality. We encourage families of all income levels to apply.

Minnehaha Academy believes the family should be the first source for funding their children’s education and it is important to note that the tuition assistance determination is based on demonstrated financial need and not on the willingness or unwillingness to pay.

  • Covenant Church members and Minnehaha Academy Alumni are eligible for additional scholarships.
  • We encourage ALL income levels to apply. We know that each situation is unique and it is helpful for you to share additional information during the process.
  • Individual family circumstances will determine if a family qualifies for tuition assistance. Need is calculated by taking into account family size, all sources of income, assets, liabilities, spending choices and long term financial strength. Therefore, it is impossible to predict whether a family will qualify for aid without going through the application process.
  • Each family is expected to pay a portion of the cost of their student’s education to fulfill their obligation to Minnehaha Academy. Due to a limited budget and the number of families requesting assistance, all qualified need may not be met.

Tuition Assistance Details

Minnehaha Academy is a member of School and Student Services by NAIS (SSS), a needs analysis system serving independent schools nationwide. As a member of SSS, Minnehaha Academy complies with the NAIS Principles of Good Practice for Financial Aid Administration.

Application Requirements
Families applying for tuition assistance are required to complete a Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) and submit it online along with the applicable fee to SSS. Families are also required to submit a signed copy of their most recent federal income tax return, including all schedules and W-2’s.  If applicable, all corporate and partnership/sole proprietorship forms must also be included.

Tuition Assistance Calculation
SSS processes tuition assistance applications and, based on the financial information you provide in the Parents’ Financial Statement, they calculate an estimated amount your family can contribute to educational expenses. This estimate is a starting point to help us make fair and objective tuition assistance decisions.

Application Review
The Financial Aid Committee reviews all completed applicant files and makes decisions based upon each family’s demonstrated need.  The Committee may require additional documentation such as bank statements and a monthly budget if more information is needed in order to fully understand a family’s financial situation.

Divorced or Separated Parents
Minnehaha Academy believes that both parents have an obligation to support their child’s education. Therefore, in the case of divorced or separated parents, or parents who have never been married, both custodial and non-custodial parents with legal parental rights are each required to submit all of the required tuition assistance application documents in order for their child to be considered for a tuition assistance grant. In cases where one parent cannot comply, the custodial parent should submit a Noncustodial Parent Waiver Petition. Lack of information from either parent may cause an arbitrary assessment of financial need to be made by the school, resulting in a lesser award or no award at all.

Priority Consideration Deadline
To be eligible for priority consideration for tuition assistance, you must complete your Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) and submit your required documents by February 28, 2021.  In order to be assured of priority consideration, families must be timely and thorough in completing the application process.  We will communicate decisions about tuition assistance in early April to those families who meet the February 28th deadline. We will continue to accept applications as long as funds remain available.
