Letter from the Principal

Greetings from the Middle School
Winter 2008-2009
Our new building continues to be an exciting place to learn and to work. Our October chapel dedication was a wonderful event with Minnesota Governor Pawlenty giving the address and students from the lower and middle school participating. The day before Thanksgiving was our annual grandparent day. The gym was packed to overflowing as lower and middle school students entertained their grandpeople with word and music. There is nothing more supportive than a crowd filled with grandpeople. During our thanksgiving chapel we were able to have a live interactive broadcast from the school in Ukraine that we have supported through our Thanksgiving offerings. The technology available in our school is truly amazing.
The winter sports season is in full gear. This year the middle school has a variety of boys’ and girls’ basketball teams and a boys’ middle school hockey team. We also have several students participating in upper school sports including skiing, wrestling, and girls’ hockey. Our down hill ski and snow board club will be heading to Afton Alps several Friday afternoon and evenings this winter to enjoy the snow. Math teams are preparing for competition with other middle schools, our student council is planning the annual food drive, and the 7th grade teachers are already beginning plans for the annual 7th grade winter retreat. It may be cold outside, but winter in the middle school is active, fun, and challenging.
Minnehaha’s Middle School is a great place to spend these important early adolescent years. Because of the clear academic and behavioral expectations in our middle school, our students are well prepared for the Upper School by the time they complete 8th grade. We care deeply about our students and want to provide an environment where they feel safe and respected. School is a good place to be, come check out what is happening in Minnehaha’s Middle School.
