Empty Bowls & Service Night
February 25 @ 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm
We are excited to invite you to our 4th Annual Empty Bowls Soup Supper which has combined with the fabulous MAPT Family Service Event for one great afternoon/evening of service learning and doing! It is an opportunity for us to pay it forward, reach out to help others in need, and show our gratitude. This formerly Lower School family event is now being joined by Middle School students and families and Upper School student interns.
The MAPT Family Service Event is from 3:30-6:00pm and will take place in the Lower & Middle School’s Campus Upper Gym this year. It will feature the following service projects: Books for Kids in India, Blankets for Rescue Dogs, Gifts for our MA Neighbors, Rick’s Place – Thank You Cards for Veterans & Centerpieces for the coffee shop, Lunch Bags for Meals on Wheels, The Crayon Initiative for Children’s Hospitals, Fill a Mind and Heart for kids in Ethiopia, Becketwood – Centerpieces for the Community Room, and Service within our Community/School.
The Empty Bowls Soup Supper will be from 4:00-6:30pm with the last soup serving at 6:15pm and will take place in the South Campus Cafeteria. Student created bowls (K-5) and spoon rests (6-8 art classes) will be for sale during the entire event (3:30-6:30pm). Before or after completing a service project at the MAPT Family Service Event, you are invited to come and break bread together and enjoy a complimentary Soup Supper in the cafeteria (soup choices will be provided by our wonderful school Faculty, Staff and MAPT Volunteers).
You are welcome to stop down anytime between 4:00pm-6:15pm, but in order to make sure there is enough soup and supplies for all families who are interested in partaking of the soup supper, we need your RSVP.
Please RSVP for the Soup Supper by Friday, February 15th using the following link: Empty Bowls & Soup Supper RSVP. You should also use this link to reserve your child’s bowl or spoon rest for purchase so that it is not for sale to the general community. You must stop in to purchase and pick it up at the event. Any item not reserved will be available for sale to the wider community during the event.
The Empty Bowls project is sponsored by the Lower School & Middle School Art programs, and all students in Kindergarten – Grade 5 are creating a collection of beautiful ceramic bowls while the Grade 6-8 Middle School Art students are creating a collection of lovely spoon rests for you to “purchase” and enjoy using at home. We are asking for a minimum of $10 per item (cash or check only at the event), and net proceeds from the sale of these ceramic artworks will be given to our service partner organization, The Sheridan Story (www.thesheridanstory.com). This organization is dedicated to helping fight child hunger via a weekend food program and operates in many schools across the Twin Cities. If you will be writing a check, please be sure to make the check payable to: The Sheridan Story.
The 5th grade students are once again taking on leadership roles for this project, and their help with kiln loading/unloading (as well as lots of other art room tasks), advertising/PR, and set-up, sales, serving, and clean-up the night of the event is tremendously appreciated!
Please join together in community for this time of service and giving back! Thank you!
